The collection was re-issued as three double album record sets by RCA in the early 1980s entitled ...

    • The Dorsey/Sinatra Sessions, Vol. 1 Cat No. CPL2-4334 (Discs 1 & 2 above)
    • The Dorsey/Sinatra Sessions, Vol. 2 Cat No. CPL2-4335 (Discs 3 & 4 above)
    • The Dorsey/Sinatra Sessions, Vol. 3 Cat No. CPL2-4326 (Discs 5 & 6 above) illustrated below

each individual release followed the above quite familiar sleeve
art design which would see a recycling of sorts HERE

Me to, nicely presented set, I never play it anymore though as the CD sets starting with The Song is You box sound a million times better.

Exactly right Nick. That 5 CD set is obviously superior. At the time though, I thought the LP box set was great.

    Talk about your fond memories...

...I was working at Westinghouse Broadcasting (Group W) in the late '60's, and one of my jobs each year was to coordinate a series of forums that would be held in major US cities where we owned a radio station -- WINS in NY, KFWB in LA, KDKA in Pittsburgh, and so on. Taking part were our international correspondents -- Gene Pell (London); Jay Bushinsky (Tel Aviv); and other wonderful newspeople. The moderator was the brilliant Rod MacLeish. The audience consisted of advertising and marketing people in those major markets...

...It was great fun, exciting, & glamorous--first class food, hotels, venues (The Waldorf in NY as an example). I really worked hard to make sure that everything went well, and the events always generated news. I spent a lot of time with the correspondents, and became good friends with a couple of these outstanding newspeople. One year, around the holidays, I received a heavy package from the legendary Harrod's Dept. Store in London. When I opened it, imagine how thrilled I was to find "The Dorsey/Sinatra Sessions" with a thank-you letter from Gene Pell, our London correspondent!

Have received few gifts in my life to rival that one! A marvelous memory!

Thats a great story Stanley, I sort of regret I wasn't around when big LP sets like this were new.

I stopped in at the neighborhood "The Last Record Store" this morning, which I can never seem to find open, and scored Volume 2, sealed, of this set. To add a note, this won a Grammy in 1982 for "Best Historical Album."

I also picked up a Time/Life Music 2-record set entitled simply "Tommy Dorsey." It's from the Big Band series. There are several Sinatra tracks, and I'm looking forward to the 1940s sound, re-issued in 1983.

I'm listening to them as I type this. I have been playing Vol.2 mostly today. Great set, absolutely a must own. I bought mine on vinyl, sealed! Fantastic!

Here is an interesting promo item, released in association with the three Dorsey/Sinatra Sessions double album sets in 1982. This single-sided, 78-rpm record (RCA JN13 247C) features "Oh! Look At Me Now." It is a numbered limited edition (1,000 copies), with a Victor label similar to the original 78 release, Oh! Look At Me Now / You Might Have Belonged To Another (Victor 27274), and a cover concept later used for 2005's The Essential Frank Sinatra With The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra 2-CD set (see the link in Marty's post #2).
