In my listing above, if it says "Movie" (instead of "Reprise," "Capitol," "Columbia," etc.), it is a movie soundtrack rather than record studio recording.

Let the River Run, one of my favorite Carly Simon songs followed by another favorite by Carly. Comin' Around Again is my favorite Carly Simon album.

Mmmm, hmmm, I like movie music. I also like Simon and Garfunkel. I hope to hear my favorite Bond theme sometime today.

Sorry, Susan. My only song in this show is Tony Rome.

Well ok, Tony Rome is good too but the movie version of YOLT would have been extra special.

I use the term "studio" for recordings made for record labels and intended for commercial release, rather than for use in a motion picture. |

Clearly, when a record company is funding a recording session, they hope/intend to make a commerical release. So when it comes to movie soundtracks, how does it work? The recordings are made to be incorporated in the movie's soundtracks, and only sometimes the studio will release a record of the soundtrack. Bob, am I saying this right? Regards, Jerry

In Sinatra's case, many of his "soundtrack" albums are actually record studio recreations and not the original film music. In some cases, the soundtrack album contains a mix of movie and studio versions. In those cases where the soundtrack album is true to the film (e.g. High Society), the movie studio contracts with a record label to issue the commercial soundtrack release.
I believe Chuck explains this is detail in the thread for the Frank Sinatra In Hollywood box set. (No time just now to lookup specific posts there.) |

Many times, if we want to play a particular song from a film, we have to take the song from the DVD or VHS of the film. Thank heaven for Daniel and the equipment that make this possible.

Mel Torme sang this song; this version, over the titles of Sunday In New York.
A New York album followed.
