Hi All,

The glitch with "Be Careful It's My Heart" during today's show was my fault. Nancy had programmed a terrific set, and when the programmer built the show in the Sirius computer he inadvertently pulled the wrong version. There are multiple Sinatra versions for many songs in the database, and it's inevitable that mistakes such as this will sometimes occur. I've been trying hard to audition each transition for every show, but with multiple shows being written/recorded/edited at the same time, it can get a bit confusing. In any event, I will be more vigilant about double-checking the programmer's log in the future. Thank you so much for bearing with us as we road-test the show and work out the kinks! Things seem to be clicking into place, and the shows are getting stronger each week.

By the way, the error will be corrected so that the Tuesday and Thursday re-broadcast of the show will be correct.

Chuck

Yes. Mark. That was the actual film soundtrack version, recorded with Bill Miller in 1955 for MGM. It's in the FS In Hollywood box set, along with two orchestra versions used in the main and end titles. These preceded the commercial Capitol single recording by a couple of months.

This version of the song was from the scene where Debby Reynolds (Julie) was rehearsing the Tender Trap for the show Charlie Reader (FS) had booked her into. He told her what she was performing the song all wrong and all she had was "surface schmaltz." Then he sat down at the piano to show her how to do it right. Bill Miller did the track and Dad "accompanied" himself as he sang the song for her.

A real nice scene I think because as Julie is lstening to Charlie sing, she falls in love with him.

Hmmm......there just might be a way for me to get Sirius at home; I have Dish Network for the Latino package and they offer Sirius as well. I can see about adding it except I can only listen to it at home, no car and no office. But at least I would be able to hear it and record it for my collection! Channel 6075 is "Siriusly Sinatra". It would be music only and no talk, no other entertainment, and no Howard.

I'll have to look into it!

<< A real nice scene I think because as Julie is lstening to Charlie sing, she falls in love with him. >>
And Charlie Reader picks up on it! Great movie!

Also, in Tuesday's repeat of the show, a couple of songs in the first hour changed order to better reflect Nancy's immediately following commentary. All changes have been corrected in the Show #5 song listing above.

So much to look forward to!!

Look forward to hearing this evening's re-broadcast of "Show No. 5." Since catching most of the program Sunday I've wanted to drop by here to say how much I appreciated Nancy's selecting TWO duets by her brother and my "other favorite male singer" Steve Tyrell -- the first from one of Steve's recent albums, the other from Frank Jr's album of last year, "THAT FACE!" The latter I'd intended to say a few words of praise about -- especially the up-dated lyric and to ask who wrote those words (such as "with a cellphone up beside her ear").

Lo and behold, my wife Irene awoke me this morning with an ad in our local "Free Press" newspaper. Guess who's performing at our concert hall this coming "Remembrance Day"? That is like Veterans' Day -- November 11 -- at 7:30 in the evening, with a "20 piece orchestra" backing him up (perhaps supplemented by our Winnipeg Symphony?) . . . and with Irene and me -- God willing -- sitting in row six, center seats 24 and 25. "Sinatra Sings Sinatra."

Irene said, "You should think about going back stage and introducing yourself."

What do you guys think?

By all means!! But can you get back there to say hello and tell him who you are, that you post here, etc. Will you be ALLOWED back there? Dunno the logistics on that.

Kay, I assume you're talking about the regular Sirius channel 75 programming. The Nancy For Frank Show 5 repeat doesn't air until 3½ hours from now.

Ouch Bob you must be right, it said siriusly Sinatra, - wondered why Nancy wasn't on. Signed up for 3 day free trial - oh well silly me, but never mind it's good anyway. Thanks for putting me right Bob.

Kay, the Siriusly Sinatra channel plays Frank, intermixed with other artists, 24 hours a day via a random (computer-generated) song selection.

Nancy's three-hour show airs on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The final repeat of this week's show will be tonight at 9 p.m. my time (US Eastern). I think that will be 2 a.m. tomorrow morning for you. I hope you're a night owl.

I am a night owl Bob, bed usually 2 or 3am, but that show was a bit too late for me. (Even for Frank and Nancy).

The show times are geared to North America, of course. Your next opportunity—for Show 6—will be Sunday at 5 p.m. ET (10 p.m. in London). I hope your three-day trial is still in effect then, Kay.

Who was REALLY listening to last night's re-play?

Did anyone catch the cacophony on last night's re-play when the following tracks were played SIMULTANEOUSLY?

(Arranger: Neil Hefti segment)

Goody Goody
Reprise 1962: Sinatra And Swingin' Brass
Don'cha Go 'Way Mad
Reprise 1962: Sinatra And Swingin' Brass
I'm Beginning To See The Light
Reprise 1962: Sinatra And Swingin' Brass

Two of them played simultaneously -- in their entirety!! The third kicked in for a time simultaneous with the other (longer) of the first two recordings. I've never heard anything like that on radio before, have you? Talk about divided attention, or acoustic multi-tasking.

That'll teach Nancy and Chuck for trying to make corrections!

I didn't listen to last night's show, but I did hear something similar (overlap of two tunes) on Tuesday. Someone was asleep at the computer.

Actually it was worse than that. I ended up speaking over Tony Rome and then the three songs in the next set came on at once. As you can imagine, my hair caught fire.

The problem is there is nobody watching once they do their programming. The computer starts the show, plays it and ends it - period. It's all very depressing to me.

If they don't shape up and get someone in there to "drive" the shows, I can't do them anymore. We spend way too many working hours to present nice packages to people who don't even care enough to listen. There is no other show like this on radio - anywhere - and they'd best start figuring this out if they want to keep it.

Apparently sombody was close enough to hear what happened but my guess is they got a bunch of phonecalls that woke them up. The whole thing went black for a couple of minutes while they figured out what to do and when it came back on the air, they were playing just the last song of the set.

Basically, I have had it with them.

99 per cent perfect -- from our perspective, Nancy!

If it’s any consolation, Nancy . . . your shows from our perspective have been pretty much perfect (up till that goof-up last night). There must have been SOME little glitches in the first four shows . . . but I can’t recall what they were.

Up until that moment last evening, everything about the first five shows -- content, presentation EVERYTHING! -- has been pure, unadulterated joyful listening.

I remember you telling us earlier, you didn’t like the sound of your voice on the first couple shows -- the mic they provided -- but . . . I’m sure I speak for others -- your speaking voice sounded wonderful!

So . . . as Nancy Sinatra herself would say, “Don’t Despair!” I have a strong hunch it WILL keep getting better!

Gotta love the sense of humor (the saving grace) that is able to say, “As you can imagine my hair was on fire.” (LOL at the thought of those golden tresses going up in flames!)

I say someone really smart should pamper you (tonight) with a perfectly-made Martini or two, and serve you a really nice meal. If I ruled the world (or at least Sirius Radio) I’d personally serve you your first drink this evening!

Loved it Nancy, my favorite so far. I'll love it even more Thursday when I can relax, turn up the volume and listen without interruptions.

I just heard the 4th of July program today and loved it! So many recordings I'd never heard before.

How appropriate, too. I listened while I composed a couple of posts about one of our great American Presidents for the Politics Forum...
