Songs and Sources

As an adjunct to Mark's excellent review, here is a concise listing of all the songs in Nancy's debut show. For each song, I have provided the record label or type of recording, year of recording, and ONE compact disc source (which should answer most of Mark's questions above).

[ I may have the sources of one or two wrong, so any corrections will be welcome. ]

Thank you Mark & Bob for the complete rundown of the program. Although I had it on and was listening as much as I could, I didn't get to hear it the way I wished I could. Was busy entertaining my daughters and dinner. But I plan on sitting next to the computer on Thursday night to hear it in it's entirety with "NO" interruptions.

Bob...that was really sweet of you to put Mark's (Map 55) photo here.

I'm looking forward to making this the very best Sinatra show ever, and we need your critique and suggestions...
Great start, Chuck!

I especially liked the complete album. It would be nice to have one of these every week, especially now that many of the original Reprise albums have gone out of print. I like your placement of this in the 2nd hour: It would be nice to do this consistently, so that people who can't hear the whole show might have an expectation of this feature.

I'd like to hear some of the cuts from unreleased radio shows of the '40s and Perfectly Frank from the '50s. I also liked the contrast of the two versions of "Blue Moon"—sort of a reverse "Then and Again" à la Sid Mark.

One obvious suggestion (coming from me ): An online discography in advance of the broadcast. Something at least along the lines of what I posted above, possibly with additional details for the extra-curious. I'd be happy to assist in the generation of such a document (in return for an advance preview ).

More suggestions as I think of them...

Thanks, Ron. You're quite right about "One For My Baby." I suspect most of the tracks were from Sinatra At The Sands. The Sinatra: Vegas version of "Crush" was especially noticeable, of course. I'll listen more closely during Tuesday's show to determine the others.

[Added after rerun: Only "I've Got A Crush On You" and "The Street Of Dreams" are from the Sinatra: Vegas box set (disc 2).]

Bob & Mark....

Thanks, ever so much! Unfortunately, I still have XM Radio until the merger is complete, which may never come!Judging by thee above reviews , I may have to go ahead and switch over to Sirius. This is to important to miss! Incidentally, on Friday afternoon, investors in Sirius stock were alerted to the news of Nancy`s opening show, which probably contributed to the large audience.

Yes it is, Mark. Their "Stiletto" units are portable, as well as being usable in a car or at home with a docking kit. They're pricey, but they can also function as MP3 players like iPods, and they can RECORD Sirius broadcasts for later playback and/or computer transfer. I'm "siriusly" considering buying one of these.

Bob

Chuck asked for comments via email, not on the site

BTW: What you heard yesterday is the form the show will take each week. I thought I mentioned that.

Nancy: I know Chuck's email address, but he didn't post it for the benefit of others. (E.g. Nick responded to Chuck's post above, also.) Wouldn't it make sense for Chuck to check in here for comments? I just assumed that was what he meant, but a PM is on its way.

I thought you said you were still working out the kinks, but it's nice to know that will be the final format. Congratulations again!

Hi All,

Thanks for the nice comments on Nancy's new show! I am certain that it will become a model of its kind.

The format will generally stay close to what you heard on Sunday. We have lots of ideas, and will use the blocking of the first show to present them as the weeks roll on.

If anyone has a suggestion, please email Nancy or me privately. It's just much easier for me to keep track of that way...

We'll be tweaking things as we go along, so please stay tuned and keep us informed about what you like, and what you don't like. Bear in mind that we're trying to maintain a balance: between tempo and ballad songs, older and newer recordings, etc. We've also got to make the show appealing to the general listener, and the Sinatra fanatic alike. It will take a bit of time to get a handle on whether we're hitting all of our goals, but I think we're off to a great start!

Chuck

P.S. The version of "Put Your Dreams Away" that we used on the closer was the Capitol version. We're still toying with the idea of creating a similar closer using the Columbia and Reprise (and then alternating them occasionally), but it's just an idea at this point.

P.S.

Bob, I'm a half-step ahead of you. I'm already talking to Sirius about puting the playlists and album sources on their website, so that people know where to go to buy the music.

Man oh man oh man!!

I HAVE to get Sirius! Any chance anyone recorded it at home?

Nance and Chuckster, sounds like you did an excellent job!

Thanks to Bob for the tracklistings, at least I can re-create the rundown on my own since I don't have satellite radio. I have 99% of what was played.

Thanks also to Mark for posting his thoughts, made it seem like I was listening in!
