TINA tells Liz Smith "I'm Retiring"

In todays NY Post , Liz Smith was writting about the great reviews she is hearing about the Manchurian Candidate......Liz said she had called Tina and spoke with her. Liz was assuming that Tina would be using the success of the Manchurian Candidate as her launching pad for a big future as a movie mogul...Tina responded to Smith " Oh, Liz , No Way!, I'm Retiring!"..."This is it"....Tina is quoted as saying to Liz "Well, if it's a big hit, I might work again as a producer"..."but honestly , how can I top this material ?" I have always loved the original book by Richard Condon. Then there's Jonathan Deme directing, the screenwriters Daniel Pyne and Dean Georgaris, and these actors".....You know my Dad, who starred in the 1962 original with Lawrence Harvey, Janet Leigh and Angela Lansbury. owned the rights on a remake for 12 years. But it only came to fruition once Jonathan and Daniel were on Board".....Then Liz asked Tina "What would Frank Sinatra have thought about this reinvention of the famous political thriller?..Tina said "He was always enthusiastic about this kind of material being done as the climate changed- today we have a whole new world of intrigue, war , power struggles, conspiracy theories"....Liz did mention to Tina that she couldn't quite place Liev Schreiber. Tina enthused "He is a wonderful actor"....He has done a lot of theater and movies, and one of the reasons he's so perfect id that he kind of looks like the son of Meryl Streep...That is true, and there is also something of Laurence Harvey in his face- a kind of austerity and chilly distance so right for his role as a "brain-washed politician"....Liz Smith then says "I'll go out on a limb with a chainsaw, if the whole of "the Manchurian Candidate" is only half as effective as the snippets I saw....Tina Sinatra is going to be up onstage next year at the Kodak Theater clutching an Oscar and perhaps singing a few bars of "My Way"...And she'll definitely have to reconsider "RETIRING"...She is a dynamic , talented woman, and Hollywood needs more just like her.
