Antonio Carlos Jobim

Antonio Carlos ("Tom") Jobim (1925-1994) was undeniably one of the great Brazilian composers, a globally known songwriter who shares equal rank with the Gershwins and Cole Porter . The world discovered Bossa Nova in 1963 with the huge success of the master Antônio Carlos Jobim's Girl from Ipanema which won four Grammies that year. Antônio Carlos Jobim lives on as one of the fathers of Bossa Nova in the history of music, and one of the major composer of the 20th century. He died the 08 december 1994 in New York City.
The uniqueness and importance of his work led me to make this single tribute.

How lovely

Tonight I saw Sergio Mendes at the Hollywood Bowl. He spoke of his
old friend Jobim and played a couple of his songs. It was beautiful.
Then I saw your tribute and I knew there is something more to life
than what we find here on this planet. These "coincidences" happen
too often to be coincidental! People think about someone and like
magic, he appears! Thank you for making this a perfect night, S.V.

Nancy, i agree with you.
Nowadays i'm thinking more about life. I don't know why, but i sttoped to fight against the fact that there is some powerful force that make things, as you said, that seens like coincidences but it is not. Although i don't know why this power that is God make us to suffer with the death. But in fact, without any religious dogmas, i believe that our inteligence, talent, emotion and so on, never fade away. I think it would be nonsense, incongruity, to live in vain.
Well i don't know why i wrote these letters...
Regards,

Hi Kris,
Thank you for your kind words. As i said, i'm still trying to improve my english . But fortunately, these days when all the songs are out of tune (except Sinatra's songs) and all the rhythms ring so untrue, i am finding some words to say.
Sleep warm dear friend.

I agree SV that Antonio Carlos Jobim was a great composer, he brought a beautiful new sound to the world. It would have been great if Frank and Antonio had recorded more than just an album and a half, but I'm greatful for what they did do together. I think Frank's Spainish was pretty damn good on "Aqua de Beber" !
If I recall correctly isn't the main airport in Rio named after Antonio?

Hi Camel.
You are right. The Rio de Janeiro's international airport's name is Antonio Carlos Jobim/Galeão.
Just a little repair. Jobim's native language was portuguese. As you said, i agree that Frank's portuguese was pretty damn good on Água de Beber.
Regards,

Has it really been that long since Jobim died? Time passes...

He created such beautiful music -- one of the true greats, I believe. He is very missed.

Antonio Carlos Jobim

It wasn't until I listened to my complete Reprise Boxed Collection, that I finally discovered the unique and exquisitely sensitive beauty of the lyrics, melodies, and guitar of Antonio Carlos Jobim. His Music seemed to be made for Frank Sinatra's Voice. Jobim gave Frank a whole new classy, sophisticated, contemporary, and international vehicle of musical expression, within his magnificently written Bossa Novas. Jobim is truly among the greatest Composers in the World!

Lourdes, Hello!!

Hi Lourdes! As you know, in a piano-bar(saloon) many people wanna dig an' listen all kinds of songs, specially american songs. So, for many years I created a special repertory for this purpose. Cole Porter's, Gershwin's, Richard Rodgers"songs, and etc..... You know, a lot of great american composers. , and Sinatra is always remembered mostly. I also play bossa and Italian songs, among many others. Movie Classic songs are very requested too. It's very interesting and I love playing all them all. It's a kinda of hobby or relax , I don't know, but I act as a professional player, and as you asked me I play many Frank songs, from the 30's till nowadays. And I'm gonna tell you, you won't believe, but "Strangers in the Night"is the most requested yet. Sinatra and his Art, we have to keep the flame alive, don't we? Ciao, Paolo......
