For me, Saturday was not complete without Bandstand. The entertainers, the music, the dances, the kids, and of course, Dick Clark were my view of a world I wanted to be a part of. I missed it as I grew older and today, I wanted to just be a part of it one more time. I will miss you Dick Clark and the world you showed me. That world is, as Nancy and Ace said, long gone.

He was a pioneer and by any measure a nice man. He and Ed McMahon lived down the street from one another in Drexel Hill, Pa when they broke in in Philadelphia. Rest in Peace and thanks.

The name of Dick Clark, American Bandstand will always be a part of the City of Brotherly Love..Philadelphia. Philadelphia has many connections to pioneers of the music industry...Dick Clark, Jerry Blavit, Joe Niagra, WIBG, WFIL. It is a time that is long gone but a great memory. Sitting on the beach in Wildwood NJ listening to music on a transistor radio....terrible reception but what a memory.

Thanks Dick!

He gave so many so much joy and happiness. In addition to Bandstand, there was the Dick Clark show on Saturday nights in 1958 and for a while in the 60s he had "Where the Action Is," with featured artists Paul Revere & the Raiders. He also gave so many a start in the industry. He is truly one of the pioneers of Rock and Roll. Rest in Peace, Mr. Clark. You truly deserve it. Reunited with many in R & R Heaven.

I received this sad news just a few minutes ago, and I am stunned by this. I mean I am at a loss for words.

All I can actually say is that Mr. Clark will be missed. I only wish I could have had the chance to perform on Bandstand.

Rest Well, Mr. Clark, for you have earned it.

Bandstand and Aunt Barbara

My earliest recollection of Dick Clark was his after school show from Philly. Aunt Barbara was about 12 or 13 and she and her girlfriends would gather around the TV and dance. I was about 7 and they used me as their dance partner. Don't think I was all that thrilled at the time. Fond memories of Dick Clark and simpler, more innocent times.

We mourn the passing of Dick Clark as well as the passing of an era.

Your story is very familiar to me Jayeff.

Thanks for the great memories Mr. Clark. My heart goes out to all those who knew and loved him as well.

Actually, it was Bob Horn's American Bandstand before Dick took it over. Drexel Hill?
Such an easy commute to 46th and Market. You could do that on a bicycle.

He was not particularly well known down here, but his musical tastes formed the soundtrack of so many lives. Godspeed, Mr Clark, and thank you for the wonderful sounds that you promoted and brought into our lives to enhance our days.

His is a household name and he is who everyone watched on New Year's and will be sadly missed.

Of course, the Mayans might be correct since he won't be around to wish us "Happy New Year" in 2013.

Every afternoon "Bandstand" from Philly with Dick Clark and the regulars kept my generation dancing and playing the songs that were made popular by many rock and roll groups and singers. I can recall where I was the first day I saw Bandstand on television.

Reast In Peace Dick Clark I hold you close to my heart. I keep in touch with the regulars on the internet.
