Eric Sykes

British comic, Eric Sykes has sadly died, probably most familiar to an international audience as the halfwitted sidekick to Terry-Thomas in the wonderful ensemble movies Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines and Monte Carlo or Bust!, Eric Sykes was better known to British audiences for his longtime association with larger than life comedienne Hattie Jaques on radio and television during the 50s, 60s and 70s, his eponymous BBC TV show being essential viewing on a weekday evening for those of us of a certain age to remember.

One of the last of a plethora of talented post war British comics reared in the culture of Broadcasting House, a generation that included Peter Sellers, Jimmy Edwards, Willie Rushton and Spike Milligan. Personally very sad.

What a shame, an entertainer on British television of the like will shall never see again.

End of an era

He was certainly a mainstay of British TV comedy when I was growing up - especially in the series with Hattie Jacques playing his sister (I think it was simply entitled, Sykes).

There goes another of the great British comedians or comic actors! I can't think of hardly any left now. Eric's sitcom with Hattie Jacques was always watched in our home. My mother used to love it and we all would sit around the tv and watch. Where has family viewing gone to?
