UK comedian, vocalist and composer Max Bygraves has died in Australia aged 89. He was very famous over here and must have been one of the few people to star in a radio show with a ventriloquist dummy, Archie Andrews. He had huge recording hits with his Singalongamax series and made 19 Royal Variety perfomances. His father was a prize fighter and he married Gladys (Blossom) in 1942 and was with her until she died in 2011. Judy Garland persuaded him to appear in her show at the Palace Theatre, New York in the 1950's although he mistakenly thought that his humour would be lost on Americans. He bought all the rights to the musical Oliver from Lionel Bart for £350.00!

Max was such a big part of Britain's post war entertainment landscape, instantly recognisable voice and a mainstay of impressionists and comics' light hearted barbs, very sad.

" I Wanna Tell You A Story" Maxs' catchphrase and the song " You're A Pink Toothbrush , I'm A Blue Toothbrush" come to mind when I think of Max Bygraves. Sad news indeed.
