Sally Ride

One of my heroes, Sally Ride has died of pancreatic cancer. Brilliant and courageous, she was a pioneer for all of us but truly a role model for women.

Just reading about Sally now - the first American woman and also the youngest American at the time (32) to enter space - wow.

Heard about her passing earlier. That damned cancer.....

Prayers for her loved ones.

This is from the NASA.gov website homepage:

<< Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, has passed away.

Ride’s contribution to America’s space program continued right up until her death at age 61 this week. After two trips to orbit aboard the shuttle, she went on an award-winning academic career at the University of California, San Diego, where her expertise and wisdom were widely sought on matters related to space. >>

Who was the one who was lost in the mid-air explosion?

My memory thought it was Sally; I was mistaken.

May Sally rest in peace.

So sorry to hear about the death of Sally Ride. She was truly a pioneering inspiration for women everywhere.
Hi John: In response to your earlier question, Judith A. Resnik was the NASA Mission Specialist lost in the Challenger disaster in 1986, along with Christa McAuliffe, who was to be the first teacher in space.

Very sad news for all of us here in Houston.

She died of the same disease that took my Mom, but Dr. Ride was 20 years younger.

As it turns out, she was not only the first American woman in space, but she was also the first lesbian to achieve orbit.

A hero in more ways than one. May she rest in peace.
