Agent Orange Lawsuits Dismissed

...NY Times (William Glaberson) ...Brooklyn NY 11/18/04: A federal judge yesterday dismissed lawsuits against chemical companies by two veterans who claimed that exposure to the defoliant Agent Orange during the Vietnam war had given them cancer!...The plaintiffs, Joseph Isaacson and Daniel Stephenson, sued even though the companies paid $180 million to settle all such claims in 1984....The Judge, Jack B Weinstein, expressed concern about the veterans but said, "The court is barred from assisting them"...An appeal is expected. Aseperate suit on behalf of millions of Vietnamese claiming that the use of Agent Orange amounted to a war crime is still pending.

It's

just a waste of time and money and brings nothing but greif, these lawsuits. Despite what Nancy thinks, nothing will ever be done to rectify the situation. Been there, done that. I hurt every day when I look at my daughter's picture. The chemotherapy and other problems I have related to AO still haunt me. But there is just no way it will ever be settled.
Thanks for posting that, anyway.

This really stinks. I WANT TO DO SOMETHING and I can't. I don't know how. Nobody listens. It's as though nobody cares.

So much Bull---t and red tape.

I'm fighting for over 50 years for my PURPLE HEART, only to be denied by the Army Commander.

The fire that destroyed service records is not my problem, i'm still trying hard to make this work for me.

I care; I have always cared. I've been well aware of what has gone on within the VA as a former VA employee. I follow this carefully although I'm out of the loop now.

Same thing with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, though I don't think it can be compared to Agent Orange which affects offspring of the Viet Nam veterans.

It makes me sick to my stomach how the VA treats its veterans. Some of the ones with minor injuries might say the care is OK, but not the ones with serious ailments. I've seen and heard too much from the veterans within the hospitals.

This is one big cover-up when you hear the voices from Washington who have probably never met such veterans.

That was the Great St. Louis Fire, as I remember, can't remember the year. But it destroyed an incredible number of war veterans' records. It was a real tragedy. I can't remember the year. On first thought would say the 1960s. As I remember, it was said that there was no way of resurrecting any of them, except to go piece by piece through contacts - an impossible job. I don't know.

I've been told

that the AO situation, if addressed by Uncle Sam, would bankrupt the country. The widespread usage, and the legal ramifications of admitting liability would open the government to international retibutions. Aussie military, Canadian, Korean, in fact there were military members from many countries with us in Nam. They would have to be cared for also if we were to admit to liability for AO. Not to mention the South Vietnamese! Now 2nd and 3rd generation birth defects are showin up....many more then YOU hear about. I am known to approx 67,000 American vets with AO kids...and they contact me from time to time about 2nd and 3rd generation news. There are many, more than you suspect. It just goes on and on. Genetic damage is FOREVER

All I can do about it is try to help those who I know have problems. Legal relief is just out of the question.

Now we have the question of the 1991

Gulf War.....That question is....What about the soldiers who are suffering the effects of biological weapons they were exposed to during the 1991 Gulf War....and now, who knows what the soldiers who have been shipped off to that military hospital in Germany are suffering from ?.....With the administration controling the information coming out of both Iraq and the hospital in Germany.....how can any medical investergators obtain any data that may show some trend in soldiers illnesses ?........

Ray, I live a mile away from the Page Ave Military Records facility. If I thought there was anything I could do, I'd walk up to the front door for ya.

Agent orange -- before Hank's story, I was ignorant of the devastating lasting effects. This is a travesty.

Amazon has a 'movie' on their front page, named Agent Orange. I cringed when I saw the title.

I have earned at least 4 decorations that I've not recieved. My DFC is one. I just don't care anymore. I know what I've accomplished, and my wife would just throw them away, anyway. But it really gets my goat that you earned a Purple Heart and never got it. Want one of mine? I have 3 left.......
