Reporter on the Scene..
Mr Chad, Can you give us an update on Mardi Gras 2006, is the old town up to it this year? How's the weather? How's the crowds?
There's been little coverage of the Mardi Gras in my local papers and TV news so lets hear from our "man on the scene". Thanks. Joe V. |

Hi Joe
I put a few pictures in the Mardi Gras thread, but there has not been much to report thus far. This weekend is when it should kick up and it will last on into Tuesday.
I hope that Lourdes and Gerald can share some pics of the Rio Carnival as well. |

Anderson Cooper, I think or someone, of CNN is down there covering the parade and I think he's staying till Mon or whenever it's over. At any rate, I've seen quite a bit of cable coverage so far (bits and pieces).

For Joan...
Mardi Gras comes to a crashing end at midnight "Fat Tuesday".
Lent begins the next day "Ash Wednesday", Fasting & Abstinence begins. More info upon request for this very holy time for Christains, Joan. Joe V. |

Thanks, Joey. I welcome all the info I can get on important subjects.
I know about Lent, of course. It's just that Mardi Gras is mainly indigenous to New Orleans in this country so I don't know much about Fat Tuesday.I like most of what I hear about Mardi Gras except for the voodoo. That just plain scares me. Joan

Generous of You...
It will cost more to send it to him then what the quarter is worth Lee, and I'm sure there's a few of those type of quarters floating around in NO...
I know it's the thought not the gift, and anytime you want to send some currency this way be free to do so Lee......Your pal, Joe V.. |

Thank you Lee! I have quite a few of the Louisiana Quarters and I have been collecting all of the state quarters since the program began. If you would hang on to yours as a lucky token and think of us, that would be wonderful.
I have quite a few Florida Quarters as well. I will keep them close and will pray hard in these next few months that we have no more hurricanes. We have all been through enough. Anderson Cooper rode in tonight's parades, along with Dan Ackroyd and quite a few other celebrities. Jim Belushi reigned over Endymion last night at their Ball and had wonderful things to say about New Orleans and the Mardi Gras experience. I will post the pictures soon.

So glad you have the quarters. I have several extra ones. If any one needs any let me know. Sounds like the Mardi Gras was a smash!

Yes, CNN and Anderson Cooper have been covering New Orleans and Mardi Gras every time I tune in. Great coverage.
But we'd like to hear your personal report, Chad. Joan

Over and done with...
Reviews on the Mardi Gras said it was successful, somewhat smaller and the crowds were younger. I'm sure it helped N.O., with a few $$$ into the city treasury.
We're all happy to hear the good news, and the old town is probably already planning a bigger Mardi Gras for 2007... Good Luck, Joe V. |
