I'm glad the Russian Tea Room has reopened. I loved going there.

Elba...love seeing you again. I remember the name The Alameda Room but don't know if I ever went there. Of course you, Rhoda and I remember THE PALLADIUM as we have discussed this many times before. That was the place to be on Wednesday nights.........
Tito Puente

Melanie....there was nothing quite like the automat. I remember always ordering their baked macaroni in a little tiny crock pot. And their coffee

Wow....I really miss Manhattan.

The Rainbow Room

I took My sister-in law Phyllis there for a special birthday. When I lived in Baltimore, We would come in with a Ladies Group every May and every Sept. to shop, see shows, and check out the great places to eat. I do miss that.

Grace...

Its great to be back...
Here I am in the Hot Desert town..which is very exting in some ways..but it is not New York...
The Alameda Room was a very upscale niteclub...you could have dinner and there was always a floor show..and dancing!
Of course the PALLADIUM was the place to be...
We used to take the subway from the Bronx and go there every Wednesday and then on Saturday nite. I used to know the piano player for TITO RODRIGUEZ (another cutie) and my girlfriends and I used to get in free. I remember one nite we were there and we saw Marlon Brando!

Elba, I remember Tito Rodriguez well, too of course. It must have been exciting to get in free. I understand that Marlon Brando used to frequent the Palladium often. I never saw him there, but I did see him on the streets of Manhattan several times. That was when he was young, so handsome and mysterious.

I can't imagine why I never went to the Alameda Room. It sounds like a place I would have loved. Do you remember where it was located? I know you must miss New York. I have missed it every day since I moved away ages and ages ago.

NYC...

I remember going into the city to the Metropole Jazz Club where we would drink Knickerbocker beer for 90 cents a bottle. The long bar with the mirrored wall reflecting the likes of Cozy Cole, Henry Red Allen, Sol Yaged, Buddy Defranco & other musicians. Then at night we would go to Birdland and catch Basie, Lester Young, Art Blakey. Never will forget the midget announcer, Peewee Marquette! Thank ya`ll.

Ed ...... I remember The Metropole and I did I see several jazz greats there. Of course, Birdland too.

Perhaps during that time you might remember a local television station featuring Art Ford once a week, if I recall. He would have jazz greats on the show, and I remember seeing Billie Holiday with Lester Young once or twice. This was such a long time ago, and when I lived in NY several people remembered this program.

yeah it's the same in boston alot of the landmarks are going out of business and the city is losing it's charm places like the four seasons hotel on newbury street are leaving the city by the hundreds. it's a shame cause I spent my 21st birthday in the french restraunt Ou Jour Dui for brunch with my family.

Reminiscing, never got a dinner.

I went to the Copa when it was way past its prime, to the Cafe Carlyle(can't spell it) to hear Bobby Short, to the Alongquin Bar to absorb the literary history, heard Woody Allen play at that little place he plays, to lots of things, public and private events at Radio CityMusic Hall, saw old Studio 54, ate often and got good tables(because of my daughter and her fellow actors) at Sam's where the Broadway people often went between shows when I lived there( my mother was thrilled when we saw Nathan Lane there. She was a big fan of his).Sardi's where the guy told my daughter he would put her picture on the wall(she was little and not famous but in a show). He didn't.

I had some wonderful times at the Russian Tea Room, the top of the Empire State Building. Rumplemayers, the Plaza, Serendipity, the Macy's Day parade from a parade side apt., the theatres, free Broadway previews and special movie screenings so many places, wonderful parties but not pretentious at all. Saw operas at the Met, concerts at Carnegie Hall, saw my own little girl on a Broadway stage. Sat with the stage hands on the fire hydrants and watched the beautiful people go by. It was all quite wonderful for a small town girl. NO wonder I'm bored now.

But what I wanted most was a romantic evening at the Rainbow Room. Never got a dinner. I feel like I saw it, but if I did it wasn't the way it should have been, This is what I want with the right man. I can do a lot of things alone, but not this.

I hope I don't seem to be bragging, I'm just remembering how good it was in NYC I know many of you New Yorkers have done much more in our beautiful city.

yes, and I even saw CATS. At first I didn't like what you said, but on second thought it is like a song from CATS.

"Memory, all alone in the moonlight, I was beautiful then."

I also saw Laurie Beechman sing that, but not in the show, at an event, before she died. (did she die? I think so)

and of course, Tina, i was playing on Rick in the title.
