The Friday Night Movie Quiz

In the first of what may be an ongoing theme should it prove popular a little movie quiz which we can all dip into whilst waiting for (or participating in) Nancy's chat room to open.

For this first instalment i'll supply 10 picture questions, have a go at as many as you can and i'll post the answers tomorrow together with the results for those (if any) who've taken part, bonus points for naming the film's stars are also available.

Try to resist the temptation to google or search online film resources (but if you must you must but the first 10 aren't too difficult)

So without further ado.

from which films do the following images originate?

(as they're falling like 9 pins here's a couple of tie break images)

Do we have to do that invisible thing or can we just answer?

I'd be marking it all night with that invisible thingy, just answer away, Susan.

Doesn't matter if you have the same answers as anyone else as points are available for the little extras like stars etc.

I could be wrong on some of these. Some of the pictures and my mind are a bit foggy.

Day the Earth Stood Still

Great Expectations

Sleeper

Dirk Bogarde in something. What? (edit: Oh, I see - Death in Venice)

Soylent Green, Edward G. Robinson's final film

Don't know. Maybe Yellow Submarine. (edit: I see someone else got this while I was typing this)

Alan Rickman? I thought it was Donald Sutherland.

2001 Space Odyssey.

Manchurian Candidate, showing a guy we may be familiar with.

Touch of Evil

Have no idea. Can't tell who the actor is.

Bicycle Thief

Marty, I still can't get it. I assume the guy is a well known actor, but I don't recognize him. I think I know the cat, though.

Where are all other forum members who are movie fans?

I don't know, but at this very moment on Philly PBS, Heat of the Night with Sydney Poitier is coming on.

Rod Steiger portrays a rank, arrogant slob of an ignoramous very well.
The message is "Don't ever let this happen to you."
But we have this kind of thing common today amongst heads of state here.

Everyone did really well

From top to bottom.....

The Day The Earth Stood Still
Great Expectations
Sleeper
Death in Venice
Soylent Green
Yellow Submarine
Truly, Madly, Deeply (beautiful love story, with yes Alan Rickman in a rare romantic lead, oft compared to "Ghost" yet in my opinion this British film of a similar vintage is far superior)
2001 A Space Odyssey
Manchurian Candidate
Touch of Evil

and the two extras...

He's Dick Miller, Edwin, one of those character actors who everyone has seen over and over again yet would be at a loss to mention, though he's mostly done TV work, he's appeared as grumpy neighbours and put upon clerks for over 50 years. This was one of his rare lead film performances in the low budget Roger Corman film, A Bucket of Blood.

and the last one of course was

The Bicycle Thief

I'll revisit the format next week, thanks you all who had a go.
