Frank Sinatra Conducts Tone Poems Of Color [Gray Label]
For The Record
Conducted by Frank Sinatra. Lyrics based on poems by Norman Sickel. FS selected eight of the finest con-temporary composers and commissioned each to write a new composition based on the mood of a color, a mood well established for them by Norman Sickel's poems. Victor Young wrote 'White' and 'Black.' Gordon Jenkins, 'Green.' Billy May, 'Purple.' Jeff Alexander, 'Yellow' and 'Brown.' Alec Wilder did 'Gray' and 'Blue.' Nelson Riddle wrote 'Gold' and 'Orange.' Elmer Bernstein wrote 'Silver.' And the young Andre Previn did 'Red.'
From the liner notes: 'Here, under the skilled baton of Frank Sinatra, a symphony orchestra performs twelve exciting new compositions, vividly reflecting a rainbow-hued range of mood and character ... In his direction of the orchestra Frank Sinatra adds a brilliant new dimension to his stature.'
