It all begins this Sunday, King's Day aka Three Kings Day aka All Kings Day aka The Twelfth Day of Christmas! It is Mardi Gras Time again!

This year, Fat Tuesday falls on February 5, 2008, so it's going to be quick. Parades will begin in two weeks and local stores are already stocked up on King Cakes and beads for this weekend.

New Orleans is still here and we are still doing what we have done for 300 years. Come down and be a part of what we have always been, still are, and always shall ever be! We are N'Awlins Dawlin and we luv ya!

    HAPPY MARDI GRAS 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

    CONGRATULATIONS!

    Chad,

I hope it's the finest ever celebration for the city and all concerned. You certainly deserve it.

  4. Thanks Paul!

On the heels of the Sugar Bowl and with the BCS Championship game on the 7th featuring LSU v. Ohio, I can not remember a better kick off for Carnival!

In addition, the night of Bacchus Sunday will also be the night of the Super Bowl!

Wish I could be there, maybe next year. Even Jesse might be there, not sure yet -- but it is very possible.
    Rhoda

And there used to be a ballpark right here.

  6. Hi Rhodalee!

Come down when you can. It is starting to look just the way you left it. We have a way to go, but we're going to get there. We've come too far to let anything stop us now. Love always...

    Chad,
Hope it is the best one ever with lots and lots of people!
Have a couple of beignets for me.
Saw Larry King's interview with Brad Pitt in New Orleans- I admire his efforts.
You can't have everything... where would you put it?

  9. Thanks Lourdes and Sally!

2008 is expected to be a great year and travel to the City is projected to finally reach pre-Katrina levels. The BCS Championship Game this Monday already has the City booked with visitors and we met several Ohio visitors today on Magazine Street looking for good places to eat (those Midwestern accents are cute).

It was funny because I recommended to them a great restaurant called Ignatious which was two blocks down and they started to get in their car to drive the two blocks. I told them that they should walk and that way they could do some window shopping at all of the boutiques and antique shops for which Magazine Street is famous.

We last saw them down the block giggling, laughing, and loaded with shopping bags full of NOLA goodies!

    Dear Chad,

Enjoy your favorite time of year! I remember the King Cake to this day! YUMMY for the tummy! It was wonderful.

You deserve the best of times, always, so embrace the special time, my friend.

    Chad,
Have a blast for all of us. I'm going to get back to your wonderful city one day too. It is one of the greatest places I've ever visited.

    Chad how did it go?

  14. On TV I see these holidays are celebrated in Trinidad, Rio, Buenos Aires, New Orleans, and everywhere in between. They are a great defense against traditional prudes who shove Thanksgiving and Christmas in our faces. Instead of mailing holiday cards, I should stuff Mardi Gras beads in my cousin's box.

I have a shoebox FULL of Mardi Gras beads which, oddly enough, they were handing out on St. Patrick's day in New Orleans.

LOL must be so fun to visit that cool city Taylor.

  18. Hi Melissa!

    "Chad how did it go?"

We had a wonderful time, but the crowds were small. I think that the low attendance was due to the fact that Carnival was so early this year.

Chad, did you take pictures? Even though the crowd was small, I'd love to see them. I have the mask you sent me, hanging and it always makes me think of you.

  20. Hi Rhodalee!

Indeed I do have some pics. I have some from Mardi Gras and some from the parade weekend they do on the Northshore called Mardi Paws.

Zack marched this year and he is the one holding the banner on the left.
